Area Comments
Though of course a huge district with many boroughs, in property terms Westminster means the pocket of property around the St James' Park area - though in truth, its spirit extends from Parliament Square, along the river almost to Pimlico, and north up Whitehall.
Of course this means a huge array of property, but in fairness, not a lot of it is up for grabs at any one time. Most of the areas notionally included above are made up of strictly controlled streets of government buildings - you can't just pitch up and put an offer in on houses on Millbank or Whitehall. And much of the rest of this area is - oddly enough - owned by huge estates with the Grosvenor Estate owning much of the area behind the beautiful Tate Britain, just one of the amazing sights (both within and without) of the area. Others include a couple of palaces and Parliament, Westminster Abbey, and all the machinery of the British government. Riverside walks are a must here, as the views are sensational.
The St James Park area and the Westminster quarter itself are however, whilst vastly desirable, possible to buy or lease in. These are buttressed by St James's Park itself - part of the glorious spread of parks that ends in Kensington Gardens far to the west - and Green Park, with the Westminster quarter actually butting up against Buckingham Palace. St James's is the world of gorgeous, expensive flats, with huge mansion blocks lording it over Green Park. There are also - very few - conversions and flats over some of the lovely shops in the area (still dazzlingly desirable). In Westminster there are fabulous mansion blocks as well with simply gigantic flats fairly commonplace. There are some purpose built blocks as well as fabulous penthouses overlooking the lovely Vincent Square to the southeast.
Everywhere here is beautiful - and any properties you might be able to buy or rent, out of this world.
