Westminster Bridge receives makeover
Transport for London (TFL) has announced the completion of the Westminster Bridge conservation project.
Its original lights have been restored and switched on, marking the end of a five-year refurbishment.
According to the body, the bridge - which was first opened in 1862 - now features lanterns that match those first used and the original look of the landmark has now been restored.
"London's bridges are iconic sites in themselves and have played an important role in London's history and growth," said managing director of surface transport at TFL David Brown.
And he added that the bridge is now safer for pedestrians, as the lighting has been significantly improved.
This week TFL announced that motorists will not have to pay a congestion charge in the week between Christmas and New Year.
For the fifth consecutive year, the charge will be suspended from December 25th to January 1st due to the reduced volume of traffic.
