Abbey may be a draw to rent flats in Westminster
Those seeking properties to rent in London may be interested in a claim that Westminster Abbey provides a place "for ordinary folk to find solace and to show faith".
In a piece for the Express, Hilary Douglas notes the 1,000-year-old monument has played a key role in the nation's history and will see Prince William marry Kate Middleton in April 2011.
However, she also explains it continues to operate as an ordinary church, as well as playing host to coronations and state funerals for hundreds of years.
Those looking at flats to rent in Westminster may be interested in her claim that she was "transfixed with its majesty and beauty" when she entered the building for the first time for Christmas Eve mass.
Ms Douglas points to the number of famous people commemorated in it, ranging from St Edward the Confessor and Geoffrey Chaucer to Sir Isaac Newton and Henry Asquith.
Westminster Abbey is the resting place of 17 monarchs and the present church was started by Henry III in 1245, with the site first settled in the mid-tenth century by Benedictine monks.
