New sport and education centre for W2
A new sports centre and educational hub have been granted financial backing and will soon be changing the face of an already popular London area.
Crompton Street – at the top of the Edgware Road and near to Paddington – will be the location for a £4 million eco-friendly sports and education hub, now a deal has been struck between Westminster City Council, Big Lottery Fund, Sport England and John Lyon's Charity Trust.
A four-court sports hall, multi-purpose dance studio and 30-station fitness suite will appeal to many looking into the area, while the W2 hub will also house a sports education area with a video suite, an IT-equipped classroom and a mini-satellite library.
Councillor Daniel Astaire, Cabinet Member for Customer and Community Services, said: "Keeping fit and exercise are important for all of us - young or old - as we live increasingly sedentary lives.
"This centre will provide an excellent resource for young people to work and play – learning through both the benefits of fitness and exercise."
The Paddington area is already a popular residential choice for its good rail access and its proximity to Regent's Park, Oxford Street and the famed Portobello Market in Notting Hill.
