Route confirmed for Olympic cycling road races
The six boroughs included on the route for the Olympic cycling road races have been confirmed, which may offer a new reason to find property to rent in London.
Starting on the Mall in Central London, the course for the races will pass through Westminster, Kensington and Chelsea, Hammersmith and Fulham, Wandsworth, Richmond-upon-Thames and Kingston-upon-Thames.
The route then heads into Surrey, sending the competitors through the Elmbridge, Reigate and Banstead, Guildford, Woking and Mole Valley, before turning back to Central London to finish at the Mall.
For male cyclists, the race will cover some 250km and last around six hours, while women competitors will complete a 140km in approximately 3.5 hours.
Seb Coe, chair of the London 2012 Organising Committee, commented: "This extends the Games into the south-west of London and Surrey. We are delighted to be bringing such high profile and exciting events here."
Last month, the Olympic Delivery Authority revealed that 24 per cent of people on the Olympic park development live in the five Olympic boroughs - Hackney, Newham, Tower Hamlets, Waltham Forest and Greenwich.
