Londoners ditch cars for bikes
Increasing numbers of Londoners are adopting healthy lifestyles by replacing their motor vehicles with bicycles.
That's according to sustainable transport charity Sustrans, which has said that councils in the capital are doing a good job of ensuring there is support available for people who want to take up cycling.
Boroughs such as the City of Westminster now offers free training for adults as well as children, and the ongoing expansion of London's bike lanes means it has never been safer to become a biking enthusiast.
"There is a lot of support for people new to cycling in London," commented a Sustrans spokesperson. "Many London boroughs offer free cycle training to residents for adults, children and families.
"The whole of London is mapped in 14 free cycle guides. More people are now going out on their bikes socially, and you can find out more about local London groups from London Cycling Campaign."
Cycling has increased by 43 per cent in the capital since the introduction of the congestion charge, with Londoners now making an estimated 480,000 journeys by bike every single day.
