Mayor unveils plans to reduce pollution
London mayor Boris Johnson has unveiled plans to reduce levels of pollution in the capital over the next five years.
The 'cleaning the air' strategy is a mixture of wide ranging approaches to transport and construction right down to straightforward advice for Londoners.
As the Greater London Authority website notes, more than 50 years ago the capital was awash with smog and this forced the government into action.
While the air is dramatically cleaner than the days of immediate intervention from Westminster, the mayor is looking to drive a scheme that can improve local people's lives.
Among the proposals are measures to place an age limit on taxis in the city. Older buses will also be retrofitted to be more energy efficient.
It is hoped the plans can help reduce the effects of air pollution with an Environment Audit Committee assessment reporting that 3,000-5,000 people may have their lives shortened in the capital, if nothing is done to address the situation.
The plans to reduce pollution and 'clean the air' for residents could interest people looking for property to rent in the London borough of Waltham Forest, or elsewhere in the capital.
