London boroughs face population surge
The population of London has increased substantially faster than the rest of the country over the past decade, it has been stated.
While the UK as a whole has seen a five per cent increase from 58.31 million to 60.98 million, London has seen an eight per cent rise, up by 542,000 to 7.56 million, HBOS has stated.
The figures, based on data from the Office for National Statistics, show that the City of London saw the highest increase in population of any authority in the country at 40 per cent, while the next three on the list were also London boroughs, these being Westminster at 29 per cent, Kensington and Chelsea with 26 per cent and Camden, which saw a rise of 25 per cent.
Such trends suggest that those living in London in general and in these boroughs in particular may find it harder to buy than ever, due to the upward pressures on price exerted by increased demand.
Earlier this year London Councils, the body representing the 32 local authorities, predicted the number of people living in London will rise by another 720,000 by 2026.
