Oval: A gem in the heart of Lambeth

Oval: A gem in the heart of LambethOval is a small area of Kennington which is situated in the London borough of Lambeth.

It is a big hit among both domestic and overseas visitors, while the surrounding borough is ideal as a place to live and raise a family.

Property prices in Lambeth are incredibly good value compared to other regions in the UK, and there is plenty to see and do in the area.

Oval

Oval is probably most famous for being home to one of the world's most iconic cricket grounds.

It is also renowned for hosting the England cricket team in Test, one-day and Twenty20 matches, and is thus one of the more popular London attractions for those who love cricket.

Visitors are able to explore the venue and highlights of the tour include the members' pavilion, the players' dressing rooms, the Brian Johnston Broadcasting Centre and the Stand Roof Terrace.

The very first FA Cup final took place at this historic cricket ground, while an international football match between England and Scotland in 1870 also took place here.

Transport

The Oval is on the Northern Line and the nearest Tube station is its namesake, Oval.

It also has very good links with other areas of London, particularly Vauxhall, Brixton and Stockwell.

Lambeth

This is the borough in which Oval is situated. Lambeth is a district in Central London, with the nearest underground stations being Waterloo, Southwark and Lambeth North.

It is a thriving multicultural community, which is well known for its artistic ventures and development projects.

Lambeth is home to the National Theatre and South London Theatre, which is a busy community venue in the south of the borough.

Talent mogul Simon Cowell was also born in this part of London.

Property

The average property price in the borough is £418,755 and has seen an annual increase of about 1.3 per cent. The majority of property tends to be flats and terraced housing, although it does also have semi-detached and detached property, with average prices of £772,123 and £613,900 respectively.

Business

Recently, it was reported that a new business initiative had taken place in the area, designed to help SMEs reach their full potential.

The Makerhood website promotes  locally produced goods, food, and art and design to cover the whole of Lambeth.

A broad variety of objects including art prints, paintings, cards, clothes, homeware, jewellery and much more is also featured on the website. Many of the items are also handmade or can be made to the buyers' specification, providing a unique one-off purchase and an ideal gift, especially for Christmas.

Education

Lambeth is home to a number of secondary schools and academies. Additionally, it has several independent schools, which are well-known for their academic excellence.

Three further education colleges are also situated in the borough - Lambeth College, the Marine Society College of the Sea and Morley College.

Entertainment

In addition to the various theatres and cultural landmarks in Lambeth, a brand new ice rink is set to open in Streatham shortly, with the help of Dancing on Ice star, Beth Tweddle MBE. The Olympic medalist will officially open Streatham's new Ice and Leisure centre on December 10th .

Beth and her Dancing on Ice partner, Daniel Whiston will be running a masterclass at the new rink.

The borough is also home to a number of tourist attractions, including the London Eye, the London Dungeon, Brixton market, Vauxhall City Farm and of course, the aforementioned, Oval.
