Hammersmith & Fulham council puts residents first
Residents in the London borough of Hammersmith and Fulham (H&F) will receive more input when it comes to deciding what the council prioritises, as officials have promised to listen to the public's concerns.
The statement was published in response to a survey that indicated strong resident satisfaction levels, with 85 per cent of participants indicating they are pleased with H&F as a place to live.
In spite of the positive results, almost a third (29 per cent) of respondents indicated a strong desire to be more involved in the decisions that affect their local area, which has prompted the local authority's promise to take their concerns into consideration.
More than a quarter (26 per cent) of the public also said there is a problem with people not treating one another with enough respect.
Satisfaction with local council services has climbed to 67 per cent, however, up on the 62 per cent recorded last year. Residents are also broadly satisfied with the state of wide open public spaces in the borough, with 80 per cent of respondents indicating that they are pleased with the area's parks and green land.
"While we recognise that satisfaction with the council is at an all-time high, I also recognise that there is much work to do," commented H&F Council Leader, councillor Nicholas Botterill.
"Improving the way we listen and act on the concerns of residents is absolutely crucial to this," he added.
The majority (83 per cent) of residents also agree with the council's efforts to make the borough cleaner and greener, representing an increase of four per cent. Furthermore, 81 per cent are happy with the waste collection schedules, although this is down one per cent on last year's figures.
"While these results show that the council is broadly on the right track there is more to do. We can never stand still," Mr Botterill concluded.
The annual residents survey was conducted using a postal questionnaire from a sample of 990 people living within H&F.
