Area Comments
Since the 19th Century people have been choosing to live and commute from the Grove Park area, and as the vicinity becomes more popular, they show no signs of stopping.
The former residence of E Nesbit and Desmond Tutu amongst others, Grove Park has always provided splendid access out of London (it's an easy plunge to the south into Kent) as well as quick routes into town. As such it's an obvious place for professionals or commuter families to live.
The neighbourhood can best be described as friendly and varied, a mixture of longterm residents and the incoming families, first time buyers, couples and others looking for good accommodation and access at what are still good prices. With its sweet parade of stores and food outlets near the busy station, leading down a lovely swooping series of streets towards Chislehurst, Grove Park presents a pleasing aspect to anyone coming home from work in the evening.
Grove Park is perhaps greener than you'd expect from this area (the South Circular is near after all and this is at least notionally, Lewisham). Several little parks are nearby including Chinbrook Meadows after which several streets and culs-de-sac are named.
Houses are a good mix of stock ex-council properties (some in managed blocks), as well as mid-war semis; there are also excellent roads (mostly quiet and off the beaten track) of Edwardian semis which are perhaps the most desirable in the area.
Peaceful and suburban, great for anyone with a young family or the first timer looking to get a good compromise for their money, Grove Park is a friendly and developing local community with great houses on offer.
