Area Feature

Located in the East End of London in the borough of Tower Hamlets, Mile End is 3.6 miles east-northeast of Charing Cross and is in the postcode district E3.

Upmystreet.com's neighbourhood snapshot of the centre of Mile End states that the average family income of those living in the area is low to medium, but the interest in current affairs is high.

Schools

Those with children who are thinking of moving to Mile End will find there are plenty of good primary and secondary schools in the area and in the borough.

Sir John Cass Redcoat School, for example, is located in nearby Stepney Way and 75 per cent of its pupils that sat GCSEs last year achieved five A* to C grades, which is much higher than the 53.4 per cent national average.

Some 93 per cent of pupils at Bonner Primary School in Bethnal Green achieved a Level 4 in their Year 6 maths and English Sats, which is considerably higher than the national average of 73 per cent.

Things to do

The Mile End area is teaming with fun things to do, whatever a person's passion, be it sports, art, music or eating out.

Mile End Art Pavillion is a gallery space overlooking a small lake in Mile End Park. It is buried in a grass bank and regularly features exhibitions and installations.

Also located in Mile End Park is a £15 million leisure centre and stadium, which boasts state-of-the-art training facilities and a relaxing sauna.

For keen museum-goers, Mile End is home to the Ragged School Museum, which offers an authentic experience of what life was like for the poor of London's East End in the Victorian era.
