Area Feature

Hackney, which is located in the E8 postcode, is one of the most up-and-coming places in the English capital City of London.

The majority of the people residing in the area are professionals, who live in larger shared houses and converted apartments, according to upmystreet.com's neighbourhood snapshot.

People in professional and managerial roles are the most likely to be living in Hackney, with incomes tending to be high - some residents earn in excess of £50,000.

Those living in the area tend to enjoy the urban location they reside in, yet they like the proximity to both the City and the West End.

Transport

Car ownership in the area is high, as most people earn fairly high salaries, but they tend to commute into work by public transport, as it is a convenient and quick way to enter the centre.

While there are no Underground stations in Hackney, there is an Overground route, which allows quick and easy access to locations including Stratford and Dalston Junction from Hackney Central.

The area is also within easy reach of popular destinations such as Hoxton and Shoreditch, which can both be accessed by bus.

There are plenty of bus routes to take residents into central locations in London, with the 55 heading to Oxford Circus and the 48 going to London Bridge station.

At night, among other routes, the N25 runs to and from Tottenham Court Road station, while the N38 goes to Victoria Bus Station.

Schools

There are five primary schools within a 0.5-mile radius of Hackney and five secondary facilities within a 0.7-mile reach.

All of the primary institutes in the area produce high results, with more than 70 per cent of pupils Gayhurst Community School, Queensbridge Primary School and Holy Trinity Church of England Primary School achieving at least a level four in English, Maths and Science.

In the secondary school bracket, 82 per cent of students at Mossbourne Community Academy achieve at least five A* to C GCSE grades, which is far higher than the national average.

Things to do

Culture vultures who are living in property to rent in Hackney are bound to find an abundance of things to keep them entertained, both nearby and slightly further afield, in the centre of London.

There are always plenty of multi-cultural shows on at the Hackney Empire, from dance to comedy performances, which are bound to appeal to many people living in the area.

As well as this, there's the Arcola Theatre and The Circus Space and people who are more interested in museum-style culture could visit the Geffrye Museum or Sutton House - a stunning heritage house.

Hackney even boasts a live jazz venue - the Vortex Jazz Club - and is host to many contemporary art spaces, such as the Victoria Miro Gallery and White Cube.

Of course, with the amazing transport links into Central London, the West End is not too far away at all, and those who love nothing more than a great night out are bound to find music to dance to at one of the hugely-popular venues in Hoxton, such as the Electricity Showrooms.
