Will house price rises encourage students to consider flats to rent?
Many younger people could be looking at flats to rent in London when they start a university course in the city, new research suggests.
Conducted by Lloyds TSB, a study found 60 per cent of the university towns in the UK have experienced high house price growth.
The areas with the biggest increases were also those with a greater number of students, the investigation found.
In London, there has been a price growth of five per cent since 2005, which may encourage more students to consider flats to rent in the capital.
There has also been a 76 per cent increase in the number of university attendees in the region over the same timeframe.
Nitesh Patel, housing economist at Lloyds TSB, said growing numbers of students "have had a big impact in boosting house prices in some university towns - where the increase in demand has led to the local market outperforming the rest of the region".
Another thing that could encourage people to look at flats to rent in London is the news from Moneyfacts.co.uk that mortgage margins are at an all-time high.
