Waltham Forest hailed for high food quality
Those occupying flats to rent in Waltham Forest are enjoying one of the best standards of food quality in London, according to a recent report.
Food and agriculture advocacy alliance Sustain has conducted an audit of local authority food-related activities among the 33 London boroughs, with Waltham Forest coming fourth in the overall rankings.
The district was recognised for its excellent progress in terms of food growing, school food quality and ethical purchasing standards, as well as its efforts to persuade local eateries to use healthier ingredients.
In recent months, the council has been presented with the Good Egg Award for buying non-battery-produced eggs, while its School Meals Strategy has led to a seven per cent rise in the take-up of school dinners since 2009.
Marie Pye, cabinet member for children and young people, said: "It's great that Waltham Forest is getting recognition for our efforts."
This comes after the region's in-house school meals provider Waltham Forest Catering was presented with the Food For Life Bronze Catering Mark by the Soil Association at the start of last month.
