Those renting property in London to gain better 'noisy neighbour' protection
Those seeking flats to rent in London will be among those who could benefit from new government legislation to speed up the eviction of misbehaving tenants.
Landlords and law-abiding tenants currently face a process lasting over a year on average to evict so-called neighbours from hell, but Housing minister Grant Shapps has promised this process will be speeded up.
Mr Shapps said: "I will introduce a new mandatory ground for possession, so any tenant convicted of serious anti-social behaviour can be evicted much more quickly."
Although the new rules apply specifically to public sector and housing association properties, this may benefit private sector residents living nearby by removing nuisance neighbours from the area.
Those looking to rent in London may be keenest to do so because of the high cost of buying in the capital.
According to the Land Registry's latest figures, the average home in the metropolis costs £341,009, 6.8 per cent more than a year ago.
