Summit aims to improve motorcycle safety in capital
Motorcyclists living in London are set to benefit as a result of further efforts to improve safety.
Transport for London has announced that it is hosting the European Safer Urban Motorcycling (eSUM) Project, which will bring together ideas from four major cities.
Experts in the English capital will be joined by those from Paris, Barcelona and Rome to discuss initiatives that have been successful in improving the safety of such motorists on city roads.
Kulveer Ranger, the mayor's director of transport policy, described the eSUM Project as an "incredibly valuable opportunity".
He added that ensuring safety for motorcycles is "a key part of the mayor's aim of reducing congestion and emissions on London's roads by encouraging greater numbers of people to take to two wheels".
A trial allowing motorcyclists to use the capital's red bus lanes, along with cyclists and licensed black taxis, began earlier this month and will continue until the middle of 2009.
