Road repairs 'are a priority in Havering'
Those living in property to rent in the London borough of Havering will see their roads and pavements repaired over the coming years, the local council has claimed.
The authority promised that these essential maintenance works would not be sidelined as part of the budget cuts it has to make.
A survey asking what residents most wanted addressed in the area was completed by 11,761 people.
Some 18 per cent of respondents rated protecting funding for road and pavement repairs as their highest priority.
Addressing traffic congestion was cited as the main priority of a further ten per cent of respondents.
Councillor Michael White, leader of Havering Council, said: "Such a huge number of returned forms means we have confidence that the results reflect the views of most residents and I'd like to thank all residents for such an overwhelming response."
Last month, the Local Government Association claimed that councils across the country filled in 800,000 potholes last year.
