Residents in Islington to have a say in how offenders pay them back
People who are looking for flats to rent in Islington could find that they get the chance to have a say in how justice is served in their neighbourhood.
The Ministry of Justice has announced plans to give communities in ten London boroughs, including Islington, a say in how people who commit crimes are punished.
The government has said the scheme will also be rolled out across other boroughs including Haringey, Waltham Forest, Brent and Newham.
Furthermore, people who end up in property to rent in Greenwich, Tower Hamlets, Hackney, Lambeth and Barking & Dagenham can also take part.
One proposal put forward is to extend the use of Citizens' Panels so that residents can have a say in how offenders on Community Payback schemes repay the people where they live.
"I want people to have full confidence in the justice system. An important part of this is ensuring that justice is done and seen to be done," justice secretary Jack Straw said.
Residents in Islington have also been told by their local Gazette that on the three Saturdays leading up to Christmas there will be free parking for shoppers.
