Merton Council seeks Older People's Champion
Caring individuals living in property to rent in Merton have been called upon by the local council to volunteer as an Older People's Champion.
The successful applicant will work to raise the profile of the over-50s who reside in the borough.
According to the council, the role may involve identifying and challenging incidences of age discrimination and ensuring issues of concern relating to transport, leisure and education are addressed.
In Merton, the authority continued, the number of over-65s in the borough is set to increase 13 per cent by 2020, with 18 per cent more over-85s by 2019.
Introducing this role demonstrates the council's commitment to prioritising the needs of older and vulnerable people, it added.
Councillor Suzanne Evans said: "This role is a fantastic opportunity for someone passionate about older people's rights to get involved with decision-making.
"We are looking for someone with the time and energy to make a difference to older people in the borough and be proud to represent the over 50s," she added.
Applications must be received by October 14th.
