Mayor's first budget approved
Mayor of London Boris Johnson has unveiled his first budget, with over three million residents set to benefit from a freeze in the Greater London Authority's share of council tax.
Included are means to make over £100 million of efficiency savings, although the mayor pledged that frontline services would not be hurt by this.
Safety on public transport is set to be increased as a result of an additional 500 uniformed officers, while a new off-peak period is to be introduced to lower the cost of Oyster travel during the day.
"This budget outlines my commitment to deliver on frontline services and to tackle the big issues like crime and safety, whilst also providing value for money and keeping taxes as low as possible," Mr Johnson remarked.
Last week the mayor announced that work to improve the London Overground network was getting underway, with a total of £326 million being invested in measures such as platform extensions and signal upgrades
