Mayor outlines environment plans
London residents could be set to benefit from an improved environment and lower energy bills.
Speaking at the Environment Agency's annual conference, Mayor Boris Johnson explained that he would work with the boroughs to see that energy-efficiency measures are introduced - saving an average of £300 on bills each year.
And he also stated an intention to reduce carbon emissions by 60 per cent by 2025.
Mr Johnson said that the capital would be made a better place to live through the planting of 10,000 new street trees, in addition to the planned funding for parks announced earlier.
"Londoners deserve to live in an attractive, green, clean city and we have a duty to see that we improve Londoners' overall quality of life," he remarked.
People living in London are to vote on which ten of 47 shortlisted parks will be given £400,000 each for improvements, under the Help a London Park programme announced this week.
The mayor will also choose one large park to receive a £2 million boost.
