Londoners can see flood protection before their eyes
Individuals on the search for property to rent in London may be relieved to hear that the Environment Agency has announced that residents are welcome to visit the Thames Barrier to see it in action.
The barrier is celebrating its 25th anniversary and the agency has asserted that the flood defence should protect Londoners for at least another 40 years, something people planning to move into property to rent in London could be encouraged by.
Over the period it has been in operation, the barrier has been used 114 times to protect 125 sq km of Central London and 1.25 million individuals from flooding, the organisation claimed.
"Climate change is a reality for all of us and this is an excellent opportunity to see how the Environment Agency is defending London from rising tides for years to come," stated Andy Batchelor, who manages the Thames Barrier.
The Environment Agency's main goals are to protect and improve the environment and to champion sustainable development.
