London rents 'fall in December'
Rents in London fell by a significant proportion at the end of 2010, new research has shown, which may offer a strong reason to seek flats to rent in London.
According to a LSL Property Service survey cited by the British Property Federation, rents in the city dropped by an average of 2.3 per cent during the last month.
The research also showed that this is higher than the average fall for the whole of the UK, which stood at just 1.2 per cent.
Unlike London, some areas of the country even saw rents rise, with the south-west being hit with a 1.7 per cent increase and the West Midlands experiencing a hike of 2.2 per cent.
The research comes after a poll by the Association of Residential Letting Agents (ARLA) discovered that 71 per cent of landlords believe the popularity of renting has increased in the UK over the past year.
ARLA operations manager Ian Potter said this could rise as more aspiring buyers find they cannot afford their own home and turn to rented accommodation instead.
