London property design guide welcomed
Plans by Mayor of London Boris Johnson to address the design of property to rent in London and other residences across the capital have been welcomed by two prominent figures in the design industry.
Royal Institute of British Architects president Sunand Prasad said that the so-called London Housing Design Guide will help ensure "good quality" in developments throughout London.
Meanwhile, English Heritage commissioner Joyce Bridges suggested that the publication's emphasis on new buildings being sensitive to place and context is particularly welcome.
They were commenting after Mr Johnson revealed the guide, which details various methods property designers should consider when building new homes to ensure there is a high standard of housing stock in London.
Ms Bridges said: "The mayor's new guidance sets the standards necessary to achieve better-designed, good-quality homes fit for the future."
These positive reflections on the housing industry come after Elizabeth Brogan, the former senior policy officer at the National Landlords Association, commended the private rented sector last week.
