London police to crack down on drink-drivers
The Metropolitan Police have announced a major crackdown on drink-driving as Christmas approaches.
Seeking to reduce the number of casualties caused by drivers who take to the road under the influence of alcohol this month, the force is taking part in a national campaign launched by the Department of Transport, entitled THINK!
Transport minister Jim Fitzpatrick said: "My message to drivers in London is clear. If you get behind the wheel after a festive tipple you risk wrecking your own and other people's lives - don't do it."
The campaign is sponsored by Coca-Cola, which will be providing free drinks to drivers, while the message of the campaign will be that drink-drivers can end up spending their Christmas behind bars.
London may benefit from the kind of intolerance of drink-driving that is emerging in Scotland.
A Road Safety Scotland poll found over half of respondents would report a member of their own family for the offence.
