London children to benefit from road safety production
Schoolchildren in London are to be educated about the need for road safety, Transport for London (TFL) has announced.
A theatre production is to tour 17 of the capital's boroughs, with year six pupils being made aware of the potential dangers when travelling to and from school.
Head of the London road safety unit at TFL Chris Lines explained that such initiatives have helped contribute to a 65 per cent reduction in the number of children killed or seriously injured since the late 1990s.
"Theatre in Education is just one of many tools TFL uses to reach people and the touring theatre has proved to be both effective and popular among the schoolchildren," he said.
The production sees students pose as detectives in order to investigate after an 11-year-old boy is knocked down on his way home.
Last week TFL launched a digital speed map, allowing drivers with satellite navigation systems to keep track of accurate, up-to-date restrictions in all areas of the capital.
