Landlords flood buy-to-let helpline
The National Landlords Association (NLA) has said it received a record number of calls to its advice hotline last year.
In an indication that British landlords are taking a more conscientious approach to their duties, the NLA said it received over 122 calls a day to its new buy-to-let property investors line.
While the range of professional advice being sought was varied, common enquiries revolved around guidelines for deposit protections as well as 'duty of care' requirements placed on tenants.
NLA chairman David Salusbury said that growth in buy-to-let enquiries was predictable given the strong performance of the market over the past year.
"As there are more and more issues that landlords have to consider, it is unsurprising that record numbers are calling the NLA Advice Line for help," he commented. "For some they are seeking confirmation of a certain course of action but for others they require more detailed advice."
New research by Birmingham Midshires found that buy-to-let returns rose from 13.5 per cent in 2006 to 16.3 per cent last year.
