House prices 'causing social and economic crisis'
A property expert has called upon the government to tackle an urgent "social and economic crisis" arising from increasing house prices in Britain.
Katy John, a spokesperson for PricedOut.org.uk - which actively lobbies parliament for measures to provide affordable homes - stressed that if the problem is not tackled decisively in the near future it could lead to exclusion from the market for some.
She suggested that only those with rich parents or a job which pays twice the national average in terms of annual salary will be able to buy their own place, if the status quo continues.
Her calls for change come as data from FindaProperty.com revealed the average first-time buyer home is priced at its highest level since February 2009.
Indications of exclusion for some from the housing market may encourage more people to consider looking for property to rent in the London borough of Bexley or elsewhere in the country.
