Havering bakers urged to show off their skills
Budding bakers living in property to rent in Havering, and other accommodation in the area, are being urged to show off their skills.
The Havering Bake-Off is running as part of the Homemade in Havering Month, taking place in the coming weeks.
Whoever is crowned the borough's best baker will even get to appear on the Good Food TV satellite channel.
People of all ages are being encouraged to get involved, with various categories available for budding bakers to demonstrate their skills in.
The best fruit cake, best Victoria sponge, best small cake or cupcake, best cake baked by someone under the age of 16 and the best other cake will win their bakers prizes in the competition.
Anyone choosing to enter needs to pay a fee of £1.50 and all cakes need to be baked and given to a library in Havering by Thursday September 22nd.
In order to get an entry form, residents need to contact their local library.
A panel of expert judges, including 2010 Great British Bake Off winner Edd Kimber, Georgia Bradford, winner of Junior MasterChef 2010; and confectioner Christine Taylor of Choccywoccydoodah Brighton, will be choosing the winning bakers.
Judging will take place at 19:00 BST on Friday September 23rd at Central Library in Romford.
On the night, there will be chocolate tasting and cake sales taking place as well.
"The Havering Bake-Off is a fantastic competition and I'd like as many residents as possible, of all ages, baking up a treat for us. I'm also looking forward to seeing the event shown later on TV," said deputy leader of the council Steven Kelly.
Recently, the council announced it was in the bottom three boroughs in London for issuing parking tickets.
It issued 1,014 fewer parking penalties in 2010/11 compared to the previous year, the council said.
