Haringey Council seeks environmental champions
Those living in property to rent in the London borough of Haringey are being called on to show the benefits of low carbon living.
Haringey Council is searching for environmental champions to join forces with the Muswell Hill Sustainability Group in a new drive to encourage local people and businesses to increase their green efforts.
Volunteers for the scheme will be expected to make people think about their energy consumption, help them to reduce their carbon footprint and look into making more energy saving measures.
The campaign comes as part of the local authority's effort to reduce the borough's carbon emissions by 20 per cent by early 2012 and by 60 per cent in the years to 2025.
Joe Goldberg, Haringey Council's cabinet member for finance and sustainability, commented: "We are committed to being one of London's greenest boroughs and to working as one borough to reduce our carbon footprint."
Last month, Haringey Council became the UK's first local authority to publish an annual Carbon Report, highlighting its commitment to environmental issues.
