Government steps up plans for Olympic legacy
A new company is to be set up in order to plan ways to ensure London benefits from the 2012 Olympics after the Games.
The government stated that the move would help with regeneration in the capital - in particular the five host boroughs - by creating thousands of jobs as well as new homes.
Sporting and cultural facilities are also set to be created, as developments are planned for much of east and South-East London.
Commenting on the move, Olympics minister Tessa Jowell explained that the "brightest people" from the private and public sectors will be involved.
"Setting up this company is a vital step and will help ensure a lasting legacy of jobs, homes and world-class sporting facilities on the Olympic Park," she remarked.
Meanwhile, £326 million worth of work is due to begin on the London Overground network tomorrow, as part of efforts to improve transport ahead of the Games.
