Government launches consultation over violence against women
Steps to reduce incidences of violence against women and girls are being taken, it has been announced.
The government is launching a consultation on the matter, with Londoners being invited to give their views on issues such as reducing the disproportionate fear of violence and helping friends, family and employers to identify early signs of problems.
It is being backed by the Greater London Domestic Violence Project, with deputy director Karen Bailey noting that it is "really important" that members of all communities in the capital contribute.
Minister for London Tony McNulty explained that the measures are intended to lead to improved care and support for victims, as well as ensure offenders are brought to justice.
"Over the past two years government has invested over £1.25 million across London to support regional and local activity to tackle domestic and sexual violence," he said.
Transport for London recently announced that extra police officers will be in place at a number of transport hubs in the capital this year, in a bid to cut down on crime.
