Flats to rent 'may appeal to those unsure about stamp duty'
flats to rent in the London borough of Merton could be a good alternative to the many people who fail to budget for different aspects of buying a house.
According to Richard Wilson, from Ashley & Peck in Brentwood, stamp duty is one of the expenses that often catches people out when they decide to purchase a property.
He said many individuals are unaware of the thresholds and do not understand whether they have to pay the tax on the complete purchase, or just part of it.
Mr Wilson also pointed out that when buying a home, many Brits forget things like curtains and carpets may not be included, which could be another reason to consider flats to rent.
He said that shopping around is always the best idea.
The expert's comments come after money.co.uk revealed 21 per cent of homeowners paid more for their properties than they planned to, because they underestimated the extra costs involved.
