Deadline set for consultation on Bexley libraries
Those living in property to rent in the London borough of Bexley have until April 8th to register their interest if they would like to be involved in managing libraries in the area.
Bexley Council outlined in its Strategy 2014 consultation that it was to consider community management of some of the borough's libraries in order to keep these valued facilities open, while also making budget cuts.
A number of groups and organisations have already expressed interest, but the council would like as many people as possible to come forward.
The facilities at which community management opportunities have been suggested are Bexley Village Library, Bostall Library, North Heath Library, Slade Green Library and Upper Belvedere Library.
Councillor Peter Catterall, Bexley's cabinet member for leisure, arts and tourism, said: "Community management offers an opportunity for our smaller libraries to continue to provide services that meet the needs of local communities."
Earlier this month, the council launched its Environmental Challenge 2011, a competition that is open to individuals, groups, schools and businesses who have worked to improve the environment or raise awareness of green issues.
