Cost of living drop "great" for London tourism
Londoners working in the tourism industry are likely to be boosted by a drop in the cost of living, it has been suggested.
Dee Doocey, a Liberal Democrat member of the London Assembly, noted that the number of people visiting the capital could be helped by the news.
She explained that over 300,000 work in the sector in London, with £15 billion being generated by it each year.
And the latest cost of living survey by The Economist Intelligence Unit has revealed that capital has dropped below New York for the first time since 2002.
"I am very pleased because we need as many tourists as we can get, particularly at these times," said Ms Doocey, who is also chair of the economic development, culture, sport and tourism committee.
"Anything we can do to attract additional visitors is great," she added, observing that the strong pound had been seeing numbers fall.
