TfL named on list of top employers
Transport for London (TFL) has been recognised as one of the best providers of equal rights among employers in the UK.
Stonewall has rated the organisation fifth in its list of top 100 employers for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered staff.
Having been named as number six last year, TFL was found to have improved in terms of equality policies for gay and lesbian staff, as well as treatment of customers.
"This achievement acknowledges the importance TFL places on good employment practices and clearly demonstrates that TFL is at the forefront of championing equality and eliminating discrimination in the workplace," said transport commissioner for the capital Peter Hendy.
Career development was an area that the body was found to have particularly excelled in, as it was cited by Stonewall as an example of best practice.
TFL recently announced that it had helped improve the environment for those living in London, with carbon dioxide emissions per Tube passenger falling by five per cent last year.
