Advice for residents of property to rent in London

Tescocompare.com has issued advice to anyone living in property to rent in London or elsewhere in the UK.

According to the financial search engine, there are a number of things tenants - and homeowners - can do to ease the stress of moving into a new property.

In a new guide, which comes after Property Wire reported that there is a high demand for student accommodation in the capital, the company said that people should not forget "the small stuff" or bigger items when it comes to insurance.

"When calculating how much cover you'll need for home contents insurance, don't forget to factor in the cost of new purchases," the company said. "Things like new bed linen and light fittings can all add up and increase the amount of protection needed."

Regarding the bigger belongings many people own, Tescocompare.com said items worth around £1,000 to £1,500 "will need to be covered individually under your policy".

Debra Williams from Tescocompare.com said: "Moving home is usually a stressful time, no matter whether you are a homeowner or renter. But there are many things you can do to take the stress out of moving and save yourself some money."
