More letting agents 'looking to renovation'
Britons looking for houses and flats to rent may increasingly find they are able to choose from a selection of older buildings to make their new home.
This is because, according to one sector commentator, the private rental sector is moving away from finding the construction of new properties towards regenerating the UK's existing housing stock.
Alex Hawkes, news editor at Construction News, said: "A lot of private sector projects will move away from new-builds, which are quite expensive, towards repairing their buildings and refurbishing them."
In order to encourage such a trend, the Cut the VAT coalition has called for the tax on home improvements and repairs to be dropped.
The group asserts such a move would not only give the economy a boost but also help to create jobs.
Britons looking for flats to rent in Eltham or another part of London may prefer to choose an older property, as these can offer more character.
