To say that Hampstead is expensive is a bit like saying the north pole is a bit nippy and you should take a scarf. The area is home to the largest concentration of millionaires in London. But as Jessie J said, "forget about the price tag" - this gorgeous area is worth it. Home is where the heart is so it's important you choose the right property. Hampstead offers a fantastic selection of gorgeous abodes, with external architecture covering everything from late Victorian to Georgian. While the detached mansions and terraced houses are undoubtedly popular with families - helped by the area's excellent reputation for education - the number of one and two-bedroom flats on offer mean the area also suits young professionals.

As we said at the beginning, a Hampstead property doesn't come cheap and rentals stand at around £682 per week on average. They can go up to £3,850 per week for the most prestigious properties though. These homes, while expensive, will also make you the envy of your friends, particularly if they have a view across Parliament Hill. If money is no object, go for it.

Places of interest

While Hampstead is certainly quieter than central locations such as Soho and Westminster, you'll not find yourself wanting for things to do. Hampstead Heath is the largest parkland in the capital, with utterly stunning views across the City of London. Take a picnic with the family - or some beers with a couple of friends - and enjoy a stroll, picking out the landmarks as you do.

Open-air concerts are popular in the area during the summer, especially on the slopes beneath Kenwood House. The area is almost always a hive of activity. When the music is quiet, you'll instead hear poets explicating sonnets or see the latest exhibitions from the Hampstead Scientific Society. For a fascinating day out, get along to one of the areas many museums, which include venues dedicated to Sigmund Freud and John Keats.

Seeking a quiet pint and something to eat after your exploration? No problem - just head down to the Holly Bush, which was famously gas-lit until very recently. Restaurants are an eclectic mix from French to Thai, so you're sure to find something to suit everyone's tastes.

Hampstead's rural feel make it ideal for use in the world of film and as such the area has become something of a star in the eyes of Hollywood. Notable examples include scenes in the classic Four Weddings and a Funeral and An American Werewolf in London, while 2006's Scenes of a Sexual Nature was filmed entirely in the village. So don't be surprised if you bump into a movie star in a coffee shop there.
