World's first Google store opens on Tottenham Court Road
Technology enthusiasts looking for flats to rent in London will have the world's first ever Google store on their doorstep.
The search engine giant has set up an outlet inside PC World on Tottenham Court Road in the centre of the capital.
It has been installed for the run-up to Christmas and will sell Google Chromebook laptops and various accessories.
The launch of the shop was somewhat low-key and many may be surprised the company opted to open its first retail centre in the UK, rather than the US.
Head of consumer marketing at Google UK Arvind Desikan told the London Evening Standard that the organisation was keen to move into a bricks and mortar store, as 80 per cent of all laptops are sold in such places.
"It is our first foray into physical retail. This is a new channel for us and it's still very, very early days," he was quoted as saying.
Google boosted its presence in Britain recently by signing a ten-year lease on a seven-storey office complex in East London.
