Urban nature reserve to be created in Waltham Forest
An urban nature reserve is set to be created in North-East London, those living in property to rent in Waltham Forest have learned.
Waltham Forest Council announced that some £10 million is to be spent on creating the 4 sq km site, dubbed Walthamstow Wetlands.
This reserve and wetland centre will be on the borders of Waltham Forest, Haringey and Hackney and will consist of ten reservoirs, a visitor centre and other facilities.
Councillor Chris Robbins, leader of Waltham Forest Council, said: "This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to unearth a hidden gem that most people don't realise exists and create a unique nature reserve smack bang in the middle of London."
He went on to say that the reserve will be a "brilliant leisure resource" to those living in the borough.
Currently, Waltham Forest's fourth annual literature festival is taking place, with events being held in a number of venues across the borough.
