Student tenants offered safety advice
With A-Level and AS-Level results now in, many of the UK's youngsters will be making their final plans for university.
There will be thousands of students starting new lives across the country, with many heading to capital city institutes such as London Metropolitan University and City University, and living in flats to rent in Islington and elsewhere.
However, with this in mind, Marks & Spencer's home insurance has warned that many tenants are at risk of having items stolen from their new homes.
Almost 25 per cent of student cyclists at UK universities have been the victim of a bike thief, according to a survey from the firm.
For that reason, M&S head of general insurance Steve Price advised students that they need to check a few details before starting their new university lives.
"It's important to make sure you are insured in case your bike is stolen or damaged. Before taking out a separate policy students should check whether their parents' home insurance policy covers their property when at university," he explained.
