Sting backs Lambeth music initiative
Young people in Lambeth are set to benefit from free musical instruments as part of an initiative launched by London mayor Boris Johnson.
The No Strings Attached programme takes the form of an amnesty, calling for donations of instruments to give children the chance to learn to play.
And the latest backer of the scheme is Grammy award winner Sting, who has provided a bass guitar.
"The music amnesty is a really important initiative and I'm delighted to support it. Young people deserve the chance to learn a musical instrument, whatever background they come from," said the star.
Other instruments have come from Transport for London's lost property office and they are set to be distributed to schools and young people in Lambeth through the In Harmony music education scheme.
Recent Land Registry figures showed that the borough has been one of the hardest hit by annual property price falls at 12.7 per cent, which could lead those hoping to live in Lambeth to rent rather than buy.
