Southwark residents to enjoy Peckham's Wall of Love for longer
Residents living in flats to rent in the London borough of Southwark, as well as others in the area, will be able to see Peckham's Wall of Love for even longer.
Council chiefs announced there will be a permanent exhibition for the whole community to enjoy for a while.
The wall came about in the aftermath of the London riots, with a local theatre company starting it by writing 'We love Peckham because...' on the wall outside the boarded up Poundland store on Rye Lane.
People were then invited to write on post-it notes, which were attached to the wall. Hundreds of messages were written in total.
Southwark Council has removed the display from the front of the shop and it has been placed in Peckham Library, where it will remain, showing the strength of the local community.
"Peckham has a proud and strong sense of community, the majority of whom want to help heal its wounds if only they'll be listened to," said Lucy Bradley, creative leader of theatre company Peckham Shed, which were behind the original wall.
Last week, Southwark Council said it would do everything possible to evict council tenants who were found guilty of taking part in the riots which hit the capital.
