Southwark regeneration plans approved
The long-term plan to transform Southwark over the coming years has been approved by the government, which may benefit people in property to rent in the London borough of Southwark.
Through the 15-year Core Strategy proposal, Southwark Council intends to turn the area in a "dynamic Central London borough" by making it more attractive place to live, work and visit.
However, the government has rejected two of the strategic planning document's proposals - to set minimum room sizes for new homes and to create new open spaces and conservation sites.
Fiona Colley, cabinet member for regeneration at Southwark Council, said: "The Core Strategy is good news as it means we can press ahead with clearly defined goals for most of the planning and regeneration work we want to see take shape across the borough."
She added that it is "disappointing" to see the plans for minimum room sizes rejected, as this proposal was designed to encourage people to settle in the area when they had children, rather than moving to other boroughs.
Earlier this month, Southwark Council approved plan to give Burgess Park a makeover in a £6 million project.
