Southwark launches recycling scheme 'for people in flats to rent'
A new scheme has been launched that may encourage more people living in flats to rent in Southwark to recycle.
Residents of the area are now able to separate food waste, instead of having about two-thirds of their bin taken up by leftover meals and recyclable items.
It is hoped this will result in less rubbish going to landfill, as well as making people more environmentally-friendly.
Authorities plan to "keep a close eye" on the progress of the scheme and are encouraging people living in Southwark to get in touch with ideas and suggestions.
A total of 10,000 citizens will see their weekly bin collections adjusted to ensure as many items are recycled as possible.
Meanwhile, a special safety awareness event was held for cyclists in Southwark at the end of last month in an attempt to educate riders on the dangers of large vehicles that also use the roads.
