Southwark Council invests in local business
A regeneration effort has been announced by Southwark Council, with the aim of boosting shops and local businesses.
The authority is investing £670,000 in The Blue shopping centre and market, through the borough's Improving Local Retail Environment scheme.
Residents of flats to rent in Dulwich and other areas of Southwark could benefit as a result of the changes, particularly those working in the centre and the surrounding area.
Paul Noblet, executive member for regeneration at Southwark Council, explained: "Investing in market areas like The Blue is key to our regeneration plans and is especially important during the economic downturn."
A total of £4.2 million is set to be invested through the initiative over the next two years, affecting 24 shopping areas across the borough.
Last month the government backed council plans for two developments in Blackfriars Road, which will see the creation of new restaurants, shops, housing and a hotel.
