Southwark Bonfire Night plans unveiled
People living in property to rent in Southwark could see a magnificent firework display in their local park this Bonfire Night if council plans are given the go ahead.
Local authority bosses have drawn up proposals to hold a traditional fireworks display in the 63-acre Southwark Park in Bermondsey, which could attract as many as 4,000 party-goers on November 5th.
Rockets, roman candles and sparklers will be lit and there will also be food and novelty stalls, a mulled wine and spiced cider bar and children's rides.
Southwark Council's leader Peter John said: "I'm absolutely delighted to announce plans to hold our Guy Fawkes Night event in Southwark Park.
"It's set to be a great family fun event with an array of spectacular fireworks in one of the most stunning parks in the capital.
"Along with the rest of the council, I'm looking forward to celebrating this great national tradition with thousands of people from across Southwark and beyond."
Earlier this week, Liberal Democrat MP Simon Hughes reopened Volunteer Centre Southwark following its relocation to a new area of Elephant & Castle Shopping Centre.
