Reduced fuel bills for Islington residents?
A new initiative could see those living in one borough of North London benefit from cheaper utility bills, it has emerged.
Those looking for property to rent in Islington may be interested to hear the council's Decentralised Energy Project will look to produce heat and power locally.
Such a scheme would help to protect against volatile fuel supply prices, with the money saved from the project will be passed on to residents - in the form of lower energy bills - and service providers in Islington.
Those looking for flats to rent in Islington but are concerned about their impact on the environment could be interested to hear that any waste energy will be used to power homes, leisure centres and other buildings throughout the borough, as the council points out many power stations lose as much as two-thirds of their energy through waste heat.
Pointing out the local authority is committed to improving the environment, Greg Foxsmith, executive member for environment for Islington Council, claims that the energy initiative "will not only contribute further to this commitment, it will also save residents money".
Earlier this month, residents, organisations and businesses in Islington were asked by the council and EC1 New Deal for Communities for their opinions on how the areas around Bunhill and Clerkenwell should developed over the next 15 years.
